Hour of Code

Did you know that it is Code Week? I am doing more than an hour of code because it's just fun and it's creative and it's educational. It's learning. I like it!

First you start with Angry Birds, and when you get to level 13 or 14 it changes to Plants v Zombies. Then when you complete it you go to level two. Each level has 20 rounds of Blockly puzzles.

Tip: Sometimes I got frustrated because it was my first time because I said turn right, but it turned left. I didn't understand that my right was different from the Angry Bird's right. But what I did was get my stuffed animal and my mommy asked, which one is my right eye, then she asked which one is my animal's right eye, so then I could see it had to turn left (which was my right).

To brush my teeth, I made my mommy talk to me in code so I got there. It's really true! It was fun!

What are you doing for Hour of Code?

If you are doing Hour of Code, do you like it?

Have you played with Blockly and Hour of Code yet?

Do you think it is learning and fun?

Paper Doll Creation

These are my girl dolls. One is French, two of them are sisters (the yellow skin ones), and the one who has a lady bug dress is named Lizzy. The French one can also speak English. It's true. And the lady bug one can talk English and Spanish, it's true, really true. And the yellow skin ones just talk English. Their friends are the other two. They go all around the (paper) globe.

Click on my AudioBoo to hear me share.

I like that I made them just out of paper and tape and pencil. I love making them because it uses my creative time at home. My story is made up too, and that's part of the fun.
Have you made paper dolls? Why? How?

Do you like to create things?

Most Important Inventions

My grandpa's most important invention during his lifetime is the computer and the smart phone.

My other grandpa wrote his answer in an email to my mom, "The most significant invention created in my lifetime was the heart-lung machine, which enabled surgeons to perform open-heart surgery, and without which I would have probably died 15 or more years ago. So, you see, it's the most important invention TO ME. You might explain that the heart-lung machine circulates the blood throughout your body during surgery, while the surgeons perform the heart operation. You will recall that I had my procedure June 10, 1992."

Helping the Homeless

I am sad for other people that are homeless. It's because they have to live out in the rain and they have to stay really wet and they have almost nothing. But, there's mostly people in there that doesn't have homes in New York City. It's really sad for them. Click on play below (or click here) to hear me share.

Helping the Homeless Here are some ways we help homeless people and people who don't have a lot of things:

1. Have a canned food drive.

2. Send gifts to kids through Operation Christmas Child so they get things for Christmas.

3. Help 1Mission by building a house or raising money.

Have you ever been to 1Mission?

How do you help the homeless?

Playing with Blockly

I like learning and being creative. When school is out, I get to learn and do lots of new things. I played with Blockly the other night. Have you ever played with Blockly?

Blockly is a game that lets you make shapes in different colors and there's lots of learning. I learned how to do multiplication and addition to make it draw.

Here's what I made:

I'll tell you how to do it in my AudioBoo. Click on play to listen to my AudioBoo to learn how to do it.  listen to ‘Blockly’ on Audioboo

Do you want to try it yourself? Click here to go to the link and press the red "Run Program" to watch it draw what I programmed it to draw.

I learned about Blockly because my mom was listening to David Wees share about it online, and I wanted to try.

What do you like about Blockly?

Have you created something on Blockly before? If so, can you share it with me?

What things do you like to create?

Scoop Dig Scoop Dig -- Fun at the Beach

Scoop scoop. Dig dig. That's what I do with the sand when I go to the beach to look for sand crabs. I go to where the waves crash into the sand then I scoop up wet sand into my hand and wait to see if it tickles. If it does, there's probably sand crabs.

I was at the beach again today with my friends and tried something different. I went closer to the ocean and dug a hole in the sand, then when the ocean waves moved in, I'd dig my hands under the sand and pulled out the sand. I'd slowly move the sand away to see if there's any sand crabs -- and there were lots!

Scoop, dig, scoop, dig -- that's the fun I had today at the beach looking for sand crabs with my friends.

Have you ever caught or seen sand crabs before?

Did they scare you or tickle you?

Tide Pools

I love going to the beach. I love the tide pools because you can find sand dollars in there. I found two whole sand dollars and pieces of others. The ones I kept were already dead, and found an alive one. The alive one is green. When they are dead, they are white or grey. Star fish and snails eat the sand dollars.
Have you ever found sand dollars at the beach?

What do you like to do at the beach?

I wrote this post for the Student Blogging Challenge #2.

I updated the post with a Creative Commons Image from Compfight for Student Blogging Challenge #4.

Cyber Bullying

People should not cyber bully other people. A cyber bully is when someone is mean to someone else on the Internet like on a blog, or anywhere digital. It can even happen on a cell phone because it can send typed messages.

I watched this Online Safety video on BrainPop and learned that if you tell the Internet Service about being cyber bullied they can get kicked off the Internet.

If I get cyber bullied I would tell my teacher, or my mom, or dad, or a trusted grown up so they can stop them and get them in trouble. I would not be mean back to them.

If I see a friend bullied I would tell their mom or dad, or the teacher. I could also tell a police officer if I needed to, and could show the mean message.

I made this Puppet Pals 2 show about bullying:

I wrote this post because of the Student Blogging Challenge.

What would you do if  you or a friend were bullied?

From Seed to Flower

I plant lots of seeds at my Grandma and Grandpa's house. They are farmers and grow lots of plants. I love planting too.

I made this to show you about growing flowers.

I really like this video about a seed too. My mom says I can't put it on my blog because it has a copyright. So you should click on it to watch it.
Did you ever plant a seed?
Did you get to see it grow?
Do you plant with your Grandma or family?

Towers for Fun

This is my castle. It's a tower made out of things in my room. You can use metal, books, cups, wood, trophies, or you can try other materials.

You can make a tall tower, a short tower, a fat tower, a skinny tower, a colorful tower, a plain tower, or any type of tower.

If you make one, take a picture and show it to me.
